I'm pleased to offer shares in our latest purchase Peter Grimes. He is a 3yo gelding who will go juvenile hurdling under the tutorship of dual Triumph Hurdle winning trainer Alan King. Fit from the flat he'll be ready to race after a period of schooling at Alan's yard.

Alan kindly viewed and subsequently bought the horse on our behalf. Alan feels that Peter Grimes is an exciting prospect for juvenile hurdling given his good physical stamp and proven form with cut in the ground.

THE HORSE & PAST FORM

Well made and at just over 16 hands he's an individual who is certainly athletic and big enough for jumping.

When trained by Harry Dunlop Peter Grimes was a game winner at 1m2f on good to soft ground at Folkestone. Subsequent starts at Newmarket & Newbury also show him in a very positive light when encountering a surface with some juice. His form with cut far outweighs what he managed on unsuitable fast summer ground. This augurs well for his future winter jumping career.

At Newmarket on 17th July he came 3rd staying on in game style on the stiff July course. The ground was soft & hindsight says he didn't have the best of draws in stall 2. The first five home came from stalls 16-17-2-13-18 so that was a super run given the bias.

At Newbury on 2nd August he came 3rd in another decent race where the winner subsequently won twice & the 4th also won next time out.  Once again he stayed on well and, encouragingly, the form has been nicely franked.

The Folkestone win is available on free view at  www.attheraces.com

Peter Grimes has won off 64 - been placed off 70 & 66 & 65.

To give a comparison with a couple of our other juveniles ..... Silencio was rated just 60 on the flat yet won four juvenile hurdles on the spin, rated 130 at his handicap hurdling peak. Dansimar hasn't managed to win off marks in the mid 60's yet she won her first 3 hurdles and is now a highly rated 138 mare.

Blazing Bailey, whom Alan also viewed & bought, had a rating of just 58 when purchased. Blazing Bailey has gone on to be very successful at the major jumping festivals winning at both Aintree & Punchestown.

PETER GRIMES is by ALTHAARTH.  He is the sire of Iktitaf (ran in Champion Hurdle), Admiral (top class handicapper), Torphechen (highly touted David Pipe horse who won first two over hurdles) Masked Man (won for Alan on debut) and Thaawat (led 4yo champion hurdle at Punchestown until falling at the last).   His offspring take well to the jumping game, they stay well, have no problem with winter ground.
